Mon, 14 September 2009 After a one week break were getting back into things again....well...getting back into the beer anyway. This week we discuss the new sovereignty mechanics blog, the first weekend of AT7, some upcoming changes to Titans and some nullsec propaganda. Also the hosts go to war when they take opposite sides on the recent actions of a CSM council member. Enjoy.Comments[10] |
I'm going to have to agree that the CSM member who broke the NDA is not a legendary anything, but a douchebag for all the reasons laid out. CCP paid real money and real trust with a real NDA to this guy, and he acted like a 12 year old would.
There is a big difference between ingame scams and what this guy did. Ban for life and full real-life legal actions should be taken against this guy. Not just to punish this dude, but to, once and for all, settle the debate and say "Yes, internet spaceships are serious business."

Please Please Please stop saying "sov-ren-ity" it's sovereignty or pronounced "sov-ren-ty".
love the podcast in anycase :-)

"Navy Ravy" lololol
Regarding the betting thing - we have a CCP sponsored competition - send who you think will win the AT7 at qna@planetriskshow.com and you get to win some RL cool stuff like a Titan poster signed by devs :-)
Also, we will have SI Radio sponsored betting system going on at channel OTHERSIRADIO
great podcast as always! :-)

Cheers for the mention (and the new nickname; I've no idea how to say it myself... got a bit carried away with google). AT it is!
I've no idea what the guy's in game name is but he comes on and answers any questions us noobs on vent have about the game. Great guy really, I'll give you a shout if he appears on vent :)
Oh... and he says he DID pay for it himself.
Navy ravy?! That's as bad as my Ravy Naven...

Re the CSM issue.
In EVE, there are certain rules, if you break them, you suffer the consequences. Like shoot someone in highsec without permission and CONCORD will asplode you.
In real life, there are similar rules, you break them, you suffer the consequences. So fine, if you're happy to gank some poor sod in EVE, you lose your ship. Wow, big deal, not that big a disincentive maybe. But break laws in real life, and well, you can lose more than an internet space ship and some fake money.
If CCP aren't going to do much about the NDA break, it's pretty pointless having the NDA in the first place. If they are going to follow up on it, then the guy could be getting in trouble in real life, getting a criminal record and whatever punishment to go along with it, for the sake of internet space ship money. That's legendary? Seems more stupid to me.

NDA is not a criminal act it is a civil agreement and violation of contract. The best they can do is fine his arse. EU law yets to attribute disclosure of sensitive data as criminality especially if involving the IP of a company.
Best they can do is ban him any legislation or court action would have to be proved as financially damaging to the company and that will take time and CCP's money..
I agree with Warchilde, CCP fostered a cultured player base where it was "ok" to use multiple accounts and alts to allow single players to bring down whole alliances with no culpability or ability to protect themselves using IC mechanics in game.
CCP will need to take a very hard look at themselves and how they encourage metagaming before they go after this guy.
